Tools for Managing Autism & ADHD

Updated: 2 days ago

My Autism/ADHD Setup

This article is intended to be a snapshot in time of my setup for coping with and managing my Autism and ADHD. I'll be updating this as I go so there should always be the latest information here. My hope is that someone else will find this and it may help them find their own tools for managing Autism and ADHD.

Please excuse the dust if I'm mid-edit, it just means I'm updating or adding new stuff.😊Thanks for checking it out! Oh, and all product images will link to a place where you can get one too.

Also, none of this is sponsored, it's just what I happen to have experience with. I'll also add anything I'd personally avoid if and when I come across it.

Part 1 - How I Quieten the Noisy World So I Can Think

Current Headset - PowerLocus P2

These are a great buy. 32 Canadian Dollars got me these comfy guys with AM/FM, SD Card support, Bluetooth and wired support and a hard-shell case so I have a place to not lose them! They fold down, it's great. Sound quality is good.

Oh they also have GIANT L and R prints on the inside of the ears so you're never searching when you wanna just whip these suckers onto your noggin fast.

The most used feature for me is the built-in SD card by far. I have selected white noise tracks converted from some of my favourite YouTube videos plopped onto the card.

Specifically, the white noise tracks include:

  1. Star Trek TNG Ship Engine idling. Click to download mp3. (login required) Credits go to the original YouTube Channel, crysknife007 here. This one is my day-to-day always on noise. I find it grounds me and also blocks out just enough noises. With the headset and this sound on I can carry on a conversation but not get annoyed at spoon clinks, to cite an example.

  2. Powerful White Noise. Click to download mp3 coming soon. Credits go to the original YouTube Channel, Relaxing White Noise here. This is the Snore Blocker. Mid-high volume you can't hear anything. It's a dream come true, folks. This sound even works with those 20 dollar Amazon sleep bands, but more on that lower in the article.

Current Earplugs - Loop Switch

These bad boys were a life changer. I went from being at home unable to leave or function in crowds to being at a renaissance faire overnight, zero embellishment. Author's note: don't take your earbud out in the middle of a crowded faire to answer your phone, trust me. Not will you have to, because these guys mechanically (no batteries) adjust to 3 different volumes.

You won't block out everything at the highest setting but it puts a jolly good buffer between you and the world. And at the lowest setting you can comfortably carry on a conversation. In fact, in a group setting it actually helped me to focus on one person at a time, something I've always had trouble with.

They're about as comfortable as earbuds get and you can even get away with sleeping on them for a while, given your pillow is on the softer side.

:D I use TNG Ship Engine white noise as well.

I've had Loops for a while now but they do very little for me. They're the older model, where you add/remove the inside part of it to adjust the level but things are still too loud for me. I now bring my Jabbra Elite in-ear set as well, when I'm out. They're bluetooth but when they are off, they have better passive noise reduction then anything else I've used so far. A bit too much for use on the street but great when you don't need to pay too much attention to your surroundings.

Welcome aboard, fellow Starfleet Officer! 😂 That's amazing, isn't it just the most soothing sound? It hits the perfect balance between blocking enough noise and allowing some speech through. The familiarity is also soothing.

I'll have to check out the Jabbra Elite and if I do I'll add them to the article. That's some really good info on them. Thank you for the comment and welcome to the site! :)
